CARIBOU: The Milk of Human Kindness
i love everything about this cover, enhanced by my deep appreciation for Dan Snaith’s musicianship.

TANGERINE DREAM: Electronic Meditation
1970….not the best Tangerine Dream album. but we’re talking cover art here.

CAPTAIN BEYOND
you can’t tell here— it’s a HOLOGRAM COVER!
Captain Beyond was a vastly overlooked proto-prog outfit from the early seventies who made better music than led zeppelin and deep purple and never got the same recognition.

OWLS.
these guys always did such great collage work. i have a poster they did with these 4 small collage “self-portraits”; this image is one of them, and one is just a soggy bowl of fruit loops with a sponge floating in it. this was one of my favorite albums of 2001.
[my god! has it been 7 years since then? we are all getting older.]

JENS LEKMAN: Oh You’re So Silent Jens.
i already have this record but i need to buy it on vinyl just for the cover. simple isn’t always beautiful, but beauty is almost always simple.

VALET: Blood Is Clean.
this is what i mean about simplicity and beauty. so much about psychedelia is so wrong aesthetically. this is so right.

I’d go away with ESG.
this is the LP version of this album cover. the back also has a cool collage of their personal photos: floating baby heads, their mothers, etc.

LIGHTNING BOLT: Hypermagic Mountain
good example of when more is better. there is another album cover by a different artist that is similar to this one (at least in my memory) that i remember seeing over at e*rock’s house a long time ago and i wish i could remember what it was and search for it because it is FANTASTIC. i remember it was a limited edition hand-printed cover and it just really blew me away. there was also a record that was completely etched on one side…was that a Lightning Bolt album? no…i don’t think so. probably some strange japanese electro-rock. at any rate, he has the most amazing array of records with hand made and limited edition album art, it’s like a mini-museum you can browse with your hands, where they let you touch everything and drink a beer.
